Clippings from the Barber’s Chair

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

– Philippians 3:13-14

Have you ever climbed a fence? It’s been a while, but I remember climbing fences when I was a kid. The goal (even though I didn’t say this to myself at the time) was to get on the other side so I could keep going.

Many of us live our lives stuck on top of the fence. We want so badly to strain on toward what is next for us, but we can’t get past what was behind. We live in past emotions, hurts, relationships, experiences (good or bad). So we sit on top of the fence looking to the other side but living in the past.

Philippians 3:14-15 reminds us to forget what is behind so we can strain on to what is ahead. This is probably easier said than lived but when we humble ourselves the Lord of all gives strength, courage and hope and we can do this!

Forget what is behind you. Live a life fully devoted to the Lord. Trust Him. There’s so much more on the other side of that fence!

Pastor, we are two months away from The Big Serve! Remember, SCO is striving for 100% participation in this epic weekend. Have you chosen a project? Are you rallying the whole church? Have you got a spot for kids, teens, and adults? Are you ready with the press release for your local news affiliate? Have you trained your volunteers on sharing their testimony just in case the situation arises?

I know you’re busy, but don’t miss this amazing chance to make Nazarene history with us!
