In February 2020 missionary Igor Vale lead a South Central Ohio District team five hours down the Rio Negro River to the small village of Santa Isabel, Brazil. Joining the team were a few members of the East Ohio District, the South Carolina District, and the Christian Baptist Church. The team traveled and slept in hammocks on the boat, Jesus The Hope II.  Team members completed a roof and 1,200 square feet of hand mixed concrete flooring for a home that will be used for future missionaries and leaders. They painted the existing church and completed various tasks needing done around the church. After working each day they spent time with the children having VBS and playing games. They were also able to show one of the children’s version of the JESUS Film and another at the home of one of the families. Many of the children gasped and covered their faces when they saw Jesus being beaten and nailed to the cross. Igor and Pastor Jerry visited the homes of several of the people sharing God’s message of love and encouragement, praying for them and their needs. The team gave three solar powered audio Bibles (Proclaimers) in Portuguese, some over-the-counter medications for basic health care needs and pillow case dresses to various children.  Currently the village has no pastor or resident missionary but they have lay leaders who have chosen to stay in the village to minister and lead people to a growing knowledge of our loving Savior. The team also purchased a satellite phone for the village so they can have communication with Igor. Much work still needs done in these many small villages along the river but it was a good reminder of how much God cares for each and everyone of us-even in the most remote Amazonas jungles of Brazil. It is our prayer that many more teams will answer the call to go. Carol Lee Carpenter, SCO NMI President
